Help Me Write My Next Post

Just so you know, it's not that I'm stuck for something to write about; in fact, quite the opposite has occurred and I have several topics rolling around in my head.  Some of them are poignant, some funny, some informative; but I can guarantee interested parties that there will be no Beatles content this weekend.

So without further ado, here are your choices:
  1. As per the Grrouchman, yet another 25 random things about me, spiced up a bit because Facebook is now not involved and they can be a little less vanilla;
  2. My friend Wayne, who might have been the last American with decent health insurance to have died of AIDS;
  3. My time at the Harry Wendlestedt School for Umpires (graduated with Honors, winner of the "Golden Mask" award for performance in the face of adversity, in my case two fucked-up knees)
  4. Removed from consideration
  5. The three most purely dirty sexual encounters of my lifetime
  6. Ex-charter member of our poker table S.H., who stopped coming to our table when one of our number - guess who - asked a legitimate question about whether or not he was gay.
I'll take votes as long as I want to, then announce the winner either later today or tomorrow. Let the fun begin!

  1. Gary - just to be a pill (or Cranky), I'd like to suggest this list works better for commenters if it's numbered. Nonetheless, I shall perservere in providing feedback for you:

    I don't think you should write either 4 or 5. Don't put up anything that you feel has to come down. I'd vote first for 3 then all of the others (save 4 and 5) sound like good reads but in no particular priority from my perspective.

    1. I agree with Cranky, who I here is quite nice.

    2. Carmel - you're quite right, she's very nice, completely undeserving of her nom de plume.

    3. BTW I changed the HTML tag from UL (unordered list - like bullet points) to OL (ordered list - like numbers) but nothing happened...

  2. I'm totally into hearing about Wayne. I'm sure you'll make this story smart and touching. With my Dad's current situation I'm in the mood for something like that.

    Not that I spend much time watching baseball but I can't recall ever seeing any female Umpires.Can you tell me if there are any? If not why?

    1. There aren't any female umpires in the Bigs, mostly because baseball people are old-fashioned and hate women. Hell, they just let black people play a little over 60 years ago, which is the blink of an eye in baseball terms. Consider that they used to play baseball exclusively during the day because the electric light hadn't yet been invented.

      As for women umpires, the closest anyone came was Pam Postema. Look her up, it's a fascinating, if sad, story.

  4. Josie, after all this time I didn't know you didn't like him...how could I have missed that?

  5. Yes, my God yes he was cheap. I was just reminding the table last time we sat down that he used to add in the cost of gas and a six-pack to his poker expenses and calculate his win/loss bearing in those expenses.

    Ah, SH...I miss you, you crazy drunk bastid...
